A few things I forgot to mention in the video. The reason the holes are so big is because we wanted to try and break up our clay soil in a large area to make it easier for the roots to spread out. DIY Crawl Space Encapsulation
Переглядів 25 тис.3 роки тому
In our new construction house we chose to seal our crawl space. We did this for a number of reasons. We didn't want our crawlspace to have the same moisture and mold issues that a lot of traditionally vented crawlspaces have. We also wanted to keep the floor of the house a little warmer. One of the big reasons we chose a sealed or Conditioned crawl space is because there are Radon issues in our...

75% to 40%? Wow, congratulations! I think we will be trying to emulate what you've done in our crawlspaces shortly. There's a liner (from radon mitigation) but I think the tape, paint, and insulation are missing. About to go crawling around in there to find out for sure (ours are half as tall, so literal "crawl" spaces!).

Nice work - I would have put the sediment (spin down) filter in front of the blue filters - you'd want to catch larger sediment before them.

I'm new to this and researching it for my own DIY project. You're taking 120 cubic feet of conditioned air every minute out of your house through your crawl space and dumping it outside. This means your house is pulling in 120 cubic feet of unconditioned air from the outside every minute that it will have to condition. Are there professionals recommending this? I thought the standard procedure with a closed crawl space was to add a dehumidifier and or circulate the crawl space air through the house (not outside) as it is now part of the conditioned space. Thanks

Trying to learn about PEX piping as we’re about to have our house re-piped at the main line where it meets the house supplying cold water to our first manifold inside the home. Have you had any issues with the PEX splitting longways or the joints splitting? Any leaking from the PEX fittings themselves ?

Thanks for the videos guys. Nice to see how everyone does things a little different. For me I think I'd just put an 8ft basement in for minimal extra cost. Then in the future say 5 years when funds are available, I'd finish the floor with concrete. And then on weekends as funds are available finish the basement with framing, drywall, etc. That's a lot of extra livable space. Also I'd especially like a walk out basement to make it easy to bring firewood in a pallet at a time. To each their own though. But Great job guys!! Considering the glim financial future for our generation and future generations you're doing well to be prepared and debt free!!

Horizontal to vertical/perpendicular transitions where the water will flow toward the sewer should use a sanitary tee. Sanitary tees can also be used for venting, in which case they'd be flipped to accommodate any water flow coming from the vent (i.e., from the roof when it rains or condensation). You have two instances of a combo wye instead of a sanitary tee being used - that main stack joint (which could restrict air) and for the laundry (which created an S-trap). Would be surprised if you ever have an issue and it's been 3 years so you'd know by know, haha, but for those watching this, the use of the described fittings is not correct. You would use the combo wye when transitioning from a vertical drop into a horizontal pipe below (or you can use it horizontal to horizontal if it's convenient). Also, your 90-degree correction could have been more easily accomplished by using a long-sweep 90 or two-45s (one of them being a street fitting) -- highly doubt your inspector would have forced you to do some kind of cleanout if you did (he'd be having a bad day if he made you do so). I would personally have put a cleanout at the laundry connection above that kickover, but can't say if it would be required in your case as I didn't see what's under that floor.

I gave you 👍 but the Cordless PEX eXpansion Tool definitely is worth it both for ease of install & leak proofing your system. Also, expand the pipes/ tubes 4-8 times after contact w/ the tool rim depending on the size of tubing(⅜"-1") & rotate w/ each expansion

Good Video, these new different PEX applications are a bit confusing as to which one is better than the other. I have a hard time with PEX A expansion method how it can seal and not eventually might blow off do to variations in water pressures, especially with Hot Water connections, where water temperatures can get rather high, and why those temperatures might affect the plastic. I'm definitely not a Plumber, but just trying to use a common sense approach. Good Job on your plumbing video, I think I learned a lot. Even though the cost of an electric or battery Expander Tool is expensive, it still might be a good investment do to the physical strain of using the hand pump method in tight quarters. If you buy one of the expensive ones, you could still sell it later and recoup most of the cost. But what do I know. Right?
